At Lumley Insurance we take sustainability seriously. We recognise that climate change is one of the biggest issues to face industry worldwide and we believe that it is important for companies to look at how they manage their own impact on the environment, particularly companies in the general insurance industry.
As a part of the Wesfarmers Insurance, we have been measuring, monitoring and reporting our carbon emissions for several years now. In the 09/10 Financial Year we are very pleased to announce that in addition to managing our own energy use, we purchased carbon credits to offset all of the emissions from our operations to become carbon neutral.
We believe this signals our commitment to sustainable business practices and the fact that we want to contribute in a real way to the issue of climate change. We are also constantly working to minimise our impact on the environment, improve safety, manage our risks and to participate in the communities that we operate in.
All of the products and services we offer are carbon neutral. You don’t need to do anything as it automatically applies to all our products and services and there is no extra charge. If your business is already managing its carbon impact then dealing with us won’t add to your footprint.
Some of the areas we measure our carbon emissions include:
- Direct energy consumption (offices and base building electricity and natural gas)
- Work related travel by employees (e.g. flights, taxis, cars)
- Work related accommodation and meals
- Consumption of materials (e.g. paper, office supplies, computers, furniture and fit out items)
- Telecommunication (e.g. phones, internet)
- Advertisement materials (e.g. billboards, published media, radio/TV)
- Consultant / legal / recruitment services.
